Swim Teams Drop Dual Meet with Clark

WORCESTER, MASS. -- The Clark University men's and women's swimming and diving team recorded a pair of wins against Bridgewater State College in their home opening meet at the Kneller Athletic Center Pool on Wednesday.

With the wins, both Cougar teams remain undefeated. The women move to 4-0 overall, while the men's squad raised its record to 3-0.  The Bridgewater State women (3-1) drop its first meet of the season, while their counterparts dip to 1-2. 

The Clark men won 10 out of 11 individual events.  Senior Drew Jackson and freshman Ryan Garr led the pack with two wins each.  Jackson prevailed in the 200-yard individual medley (2:07.48) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:02.72), while Garr captured wins in the 50-yard free (21.92) and the 100-yard backstroke (53.07), surpassing his previous school record set against Babson College (54.55) earlier this season.  Earning his first victory of the season, senior captain Tim O'Keefe topped the field in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:06.15).        

Junior Brendan Sullivan was the only individual swimming winner for Bridgewater, claiming the 100-yard breaststroke (1:11.49). Diver Glen Bergquist placed first in both diving events for the Bears.  He won the 1-meter and 3-meter diving with scores of 229.45 and 240.45, respectively.    

Sophomore Britney Wigley was a double winner for Clark on the women's side.  She won the 200-yard freestyle (2:07.91) and the 500-yard free (5:39.11).  First-year Erin Smith took first in the 200-yard individual medley (2:18.39) - second fastest all-time - while Morgan King collected her first collegiate win and personal best time in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:15.47).  Newcomer Eileen Garcia won the 1-meter diving (209.82). 

For Bridgewater, Bryn Morwick finished first in the 100-free in a time of 57.15. 

Clark will host UMass-Dartmouth in a dual meet on Saturday at 1 p.m. Bridgewater State will entertain Roger Williams University that same day at 1:30 p.m.
