Men's Swim Team in Ninth Place at NEISDA Championships

Day One Results

BRISTOL, R.I. -- The Bridgewater State College men's swimming & diving team is in ninth place in a 13-team field after the first day of action at the three-day New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving Association (NEISDA) Division II/III Championships held on the campus of Roger Williams University.

The Bears tallied 35 points during the first day of events. Keene State is in first place with 235 points followed by Bentley University with 168 and host Roger Williams with 126.

Two BSC swimmers, one diver, and two relay teams were in Friday evening's finals.

Sophomore diver Glenn Bergquist (Needham, MA) was the Bears' highest placewinner as he finished fifth on the one-meter board with a score of 373.85.

Senior Sam Herman (Londonderry, NH) posted a sixth place finish in the 200 backstroke (2:04.25), while junior Brendan Sullivan (Holyoke, MA) was 11th in the 200 individual medley (2:16.43).

The 200 freestyle relay team of Herman, senior Josh Sturges (Corpus Christi, TX) and sophomores Ken Berardi (Hanover, MA) and Matt Brown (Burlington, MA) was 9th in the event with a time of 1:33.68.  The 400 medley relay team consisting of Herman, Brown, junior Stephen Diver (Brockton, MA) and freshman John Rodriguez (Worcester, MA) finished in ninth place with a time of 3:58.68.

The championship meet will continue Saturday and conclude on Sunday.
