BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The WPI men's swimming and diving team tallied nine victories as the Engineers defeated host Bridgewater State College, 138-118, on Saturday afternoon at the Mary Jo Moriarty pool in Bridgewater.
WPI improve to 5-3 on the season, while Bridgewater State wraps up the dual meet portion of their schedule with a record of 1-9.
Andrew Lybarger (Atlanta, GA) and Mason Ruffing (Stone Mountain, GA) paced the Engineers with two wins apiece - Lybarger taking home first in the 100 (49.45) and 1000 (10:36.7) freestyle events and Ruffing winning in the 50 backstroke (26.38) and 50 freestyle (23.04).
Nick Catano (Goffstown, NH) earned the top prize in the 200 freestyle (1:56.4) while Minh Truong (West Roxbury, MA) placed first in the 50 backstroke (30.76). Carl Curran (Keene, NH) added a first place finish in the 100 butterfly (57.90).
Bridgewater State sophomore diver Glenn Bergquist (Needham, MA) swept both diving events as he registered a score of 252.35 points on the one-meter board and 254.60 points on the three-meter.
Bridgewater will be back in the pool on February 27th as the Bears will compete in the three-day NEISDA Division II/III Championships hosted by Roger Williams University. WPI travels to Wheaton College for the NEWMAC Championships which also take place over three days starting on the 27th.
