David Nelson Named MASCAC Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – For the second time this season, Bridgewater State University senior forward David Nelson has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week.

The MVP of the MASCAC Tournament, Nelson tallied three goals and two assists for eight points during the Bears’ tournament title run. The East Bridgewater, Massachusetts product notched a hat track and assisted on the game-winning goal in a 5-0 championship game win over Westfield State University. He also assisted on the game-winner in a 1-0 semifinal round victory over Framingham State University.

In 18 games this season, Nelson has recorded 11 goals and six assists for 28 points. He presently leads the MASCAC in scoring and is tied for second in goals. Nelson is also third among the conference leaders in game-winning goals and is tied for third in assists.

In 74 games over four seasons at Bridgewater State, Nelson has amassed 30 goals and 16 assists for 76 points. Eight of his 30 goals have been game-winners. He ranks second among the Bears' all-time leaders in scoring, third in goals and tied for fourth in games played.

Nelson also earned MASCAC Offensive Player of the Week honors on October 23rd.

The BSU men's soccer team is currently 12-2-5 on the season. By virtue of the MASCAC Tournament championship, the Bears will advance to the NCAA Division III Tournament for the seventh time in program history and first since 2018. The 64-team national tournament will get underway on Friday.
