BOSTON, Mass. -- Freshman forward Kevin Roberts (Medway, Mass.) tallied a goal and an assist to lead the visiting Bridgewater State University men's soccer team to a 2-0 shutout victory over UMass Boston on Tuesday night at James Cotter Field.

BSU sophomore goalkeeper Nate Morgado (Dartmouth, Mass.) turned aside six shots to record his second win and second shutout of the season.

The Bears improve to 2-6 on the season, while the host Beacons fall to 4-2-2. UMass entered the game ranked sixth in New England.

Roberts scored on a breakaway in the 17th minute as he beat the UMass netminder with a shot through the five-hole. Sophomore forward Filipe Gomes (Fogo, Cape Verde) set up the goal with a through ball that split a pair of defenders.

Junior midfielder Kessy Alves (Brockton, Mass.) converted off a crossing pass from Roberts in the 52nd minute to extend the Bears' lead to 2-0.

The Beacons held a 25-17 shot advantage as well as 5-2 edge in corner kicks.

Sophomores Aidan Carter (Weymouth, Mass.) and Sandro van Kuijck (Nunspeet, Netherlands) spit the game in goal for UMass as they combined to make three saves.

The Bears travel to Fitchburg State University on Saturday for a five o'clock MASCAC game with the Falcons. The Beacons head to Rhode Island College on Saturday to take on the Anchormen in a Little East Conference clash starting at 1:00 PM.
