Four Bears Named to All-MASCAC Men's Soccer Team

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Four Bridgewater State University student-athletes have been voted to the 2016 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men's Soccer All-Conference Team by the league's head coaches.

Senior defender Jonathan Pires (Medford, Mass.) and sophomore forward Filipe Gomes (Fogo, Cape Verde) garnered All-MASCAC First Team honors, while senior midfielder Sawyer Fleck (Foxboro, Mass.) and sophomore midfielder Kane Moran (Perth, Australia) were named to the All-MASCAC Second Team.

Pires is making his third straight appearance on the All-MASCAC First Team, while Fleck earned first team accolades a year ago.

One of the top scoring defenders in the league, Pires has produced nine goals and ten assists for 28 points in 67 career games, including a career-high three goals in 2016.

Gomes has a team-high seven goals and 16 points in 14 games this season as he ranks fifth in the MASCAC in goals and seventh in scoring. In 30 games over his first two seasons with the Bears, Gomes as produced 15 goals and eight assists for 38 points.

Fleck checks in with a goal and a team-best four assists for six points. He is tied for sixth in the conference with his four assists. In 77 career games, Fleck has two goals and 13 assists for 17 points.

Moran has played and started all 18 games this season and has appeared in all 40 games over his first two seasons. He has a career-high five goals and 11 points in 2016, and three of his five goals have been game-winners. Moran's career numbers stand at eight goals and three assists for 19 points.

The BSU men's soccer team is currently 8-8-2 on the season. Seeded fifth in the MASCAC Tournament with a 3-3-1 conference mark, the Bears knocked off fourth-seeded MCLA earlier this week in the quarterfinals, 1-0, to advance to the semifinal round. Bridgewater takes on #1 seed Worcester State University on Friday afternoon at four.
