CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Freshman goalkeeper Nate Morgado (Dartmouth, Mass.) recorded a career-high 15 saves and notched his first career shutout as the visiting Bridgewater State University men's soccer team posted a 0-0 double overtime tie against MIT on Wednesday night at Steinbrenner Stadium.

The Bears see their record go to 5-5-2, while the host Engineers are now 4-7-1 on the season.

MIT held a decided 38-7 shot advantage for the game, as well as an 11-8 edge in corner kicks. Only 16 of the Engineers' 38 shots, however, were on frame.

Despite being outshot, the Bears had a great chance to pot the winner with under five minutes remaining in regulation. Sophomore forward Jameson Bradley (Westborough, Mass.) slipped a pass across the 18 to a wide open Joseph Cruise (Brockton, Mass.). Cruise was one-on-one with the keeper, but his shot sailed just wide of the net.

Morgado made 11 saves in regulation and five during the two overtime sessions. He also got a little help from his defense as freshman defender Emelson Barbosa (Fogo, Cape Verde) cleared one off the line in the 24th minute. MIT sophomore midfielder Wesley Woo (Palo Alto, Calif.) also rang a shot off the post in the tenth minute.

MIT freshman netminder Cole Hoffer (Tucson, Ariz.) was forced to make just two saves en route to his third shutout of the season.

In upcoming action, the Bears host MASCAC foe Fitchburg State University on Friday night at seven, while the Engineers travel to NEWMAC rival Clark University on Saturday afternoon for a one o'clock game with the Cougars.

Notes: The game marked a rematch of last season's NCAA Division III Tournament opening round matchup won by the Engineers, 5-1....Morgado's 15 saves marked the highest single-game total for a Bridgewater State goaltender since October 15, 2011 when Joe Parsons recorded 15 saves in a 2-2 double overtime tie with Framingham State.
