Men's Soccer Battles Mass. Maritime to 1-1 Double Overtime Draw

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. – Bridgewater State University and Massachusetts Maritime Academy played to a 1-1 double overtime draw on Saturday afternoon at Clean Harbors Stadium.

Sophomore Brendan Gawron's (Braintree, Mass.) goal with 7:39 remaining in regulation helped the host Buccaneers secure the tie. Gawron's tying tally, his fifth of the season, came on a scramble in front of the net.

The visiting Bears had taken a 1-0 lead in the 62nd minute when sophomore Jameson Bradley (Westboro, Mass.) converted a feed from freshman James Fisher (Longmeadow, Mass.) for his first marker of the fall.

Junior Mike Pruchnik (Rochester, Mass.) made four saves in the draw for the Buccaneers, while senior Colin Jepson (Sandwich, Mass.) made eight stops on the day for Bridgewater State.

Massachusetts Maritime outshot the Bears by a 17-7 margin overall (9-5 on goal) and took all nine corner kicks in the contest. Four of the Buccaneers' 17 shots came in overtime.

Massachusetts Maritime (4-2-1, 1-0-1 MASCAC) heads to Newport, R.I. on Wednesday afternoon for a non-league match with Salve Regina that begins at 3:30 p.m., while Bridgewater State (2-4-1, 0-1-1 MASCAC) hosts UMass Boston in a non-league outing on Wednesday evening in Bridgewater, Mass. beginning at 7:00 p.m.
