Men's Soccer Blanked by Wheaton, 3-0

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The visiting Wheaton College men's soccer team cruised to a 3-0 shutout victory over Bridgewater State University on Sunday afternoon at Swenson Field.

The Lyons improve to 5-2-1 on the season with the win, while the Bears fall to 2-3.

Wheaton got on the board with just two minutes remaining in the first half. Freshman forward Roni Diniz (Brockton, Mass.) potted his team-leading eighth goal of the season off an assist by freshman defender Chris Brubaker (Honolulu, Hawaii).

The Lyons also hit two posts in the opening stanza and outshot the Bears by a healthy margin of 19-3.

Wheaton increased the advantage to 2-0 in the 79th minute off a nice through ball pass from senior midfielder Kevin Davis (Beacon, N.Y.) to junior forward Louis Chavez (Porterville, Calif.). Chavez, who was just barely a step ahead of the defender, beat the BSU keeper with a shot inside the left post. The goal marked the first of the season for Chavez.

Junior forward Amara Sesay (Bronx, N.Y.) put the finishing touches on the Lyons' victory in the 82nd minute as he scored off the rebound of a Davis shot which had hit the post.

Wheaton finished with a 33-9 shot advantage as well as a 5-0 edge in corner kicks.

Lyons' junior netminder Erik Wisniewski (Salisbury, Mass.) made five saves to record his fourth win and third shutout of the season. Freshman Nate Morgado (Dartmouth, Mass.) turned aside eight shots between the pipes for the Bears.

Both teams are back in action on Wednesday night at seven. Bridgewater entertains Clark University, while Wheaton travels to Roger Williams University.
