Men's Soccer Falls to Babson, 1-0, in Driving Rainstorm

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Visiting Babson College earned a tough 1-0 victory over Bridgewater State University in non-conference men's soccer action on Wednesday night at rain-soaked Swenson Field.

The Beavers improve to 9-6-2 on the season with the win. The Bears slip to 13-3-1 as their seven game unbeaten streak came to an end.

Sophomore forward Christopher Doire (Mansfield, Mass.) tallied the game's only goal in the 28th minute of play. Doire curled a shot inside the far post from just inside the 18 for his second marker of the season.

Bridgewater State finished with a slight 12-11 edge in shots, while Babson held a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks.

Babson senior goaltender Tanner Click (Lawrence, Kan.) made four saves to record his first win of the season. BSU junior netminder Colin Jepson (Sandwich, Mass.) also turned aside four shots between the pipes for the Bears. Jepson's school record string of 607 consecutive scoreless minutes came to an end.

Jepson made a terrific leaping stop on a shot by sophomore forward Justin Kaplan (Medway, Mass.) in the 60th minute to keep it a one-goal game. Kaplan ripped shot from 20 yards out that Jepson was able to knock over the crossbar.

BSU senior forward Kevin Sosa (Norwalk, Conn.) led all players with four shots.

Both teams wrap up regular season play at home on Saturday. The Bears take on MASCAC rival Worcester State University at noon, while the Beavers face-off against NEWMAC foe Emerson College at one.
