Men's Soccer Blanks UMass Dartmouth, 2-0

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Bridgewater State University registered a  pair of second half scores to seize a 2-0 road win against the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's soccer team on Tuesday evening at Cressy Field.

The visiting Bears improve to 8-7 on the year as they have won three of their last four games.

Senior Jonathan Ferrara (Swansea, Mass.) broke the scoreless drought in the 50th minute of play to give the Bears a 1-0 lead.  Off a restart, Sophomore Jonathan Pires (Medford, Mass.) delivered a short pass to an unmarked Ferrara in the middle of the pitch who blasted a dipping shot into the bottom right corner of the net from roughly 40 yards out for his first goal of the 2014 campaign.

Bridgewater State (8-7-0) ceiled the road victory late in regulation, when junior Conor Murtagh (Walpole, Mass.) headed a cross over goalkeeper Luis Carranza (New Bedford, Mass.) for his team-leading sixth goal of the season and third in the last four games. Sophomore Camilo Mora (Houston, Texas) delivered the perfectly paced ball on the decisive strike also off a restart.

The Corsairs' offensive attack was held in check by a physical Bears defense, limiting UMass Dartmouth (5-9-1) to only four shots in the second half.

In net, Carranza turned away seven shot attempts for the Corsairs, while Bridgewater State sophomore Colin Jepson (Sandwich, Mass.) made seven saves en route to his eighth win of the year and sixth shutout.

UMass Dartmouth returns to action at 1 pm on Saturday, Oct. 25, when the Corsairs travel to Eastern Connecticut for a Little East Conference contest.   Bridgewater State travels to Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) foe MCLA on Saturday for a 1 pm match.  A win over the Trailblazers would clinch the MASCAC regular season title for the Bears.
