LeSage Nets Pair of Goals as Men's Soccer Blanks Worcester State, 2-0

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Sophomore forward Colby LeSage (Maynard, Mass.) tallied a pair of goals to lead Bridgewater State University to a 2-0 shutout victory over visiting Worcester State University in MASCAC men's soccer action on Saturday afternoon at Swenson Field.

The Bears improve to 5-4 on the season and 2-1 in the MASCAC, while the Lancers slip to 3-6-1 overall and 1-2 in conference play.

After a scoreless opening 45 minutes, LeSage staked the hosts to a 1-0 lead in the 56th minute with his first collegiate goal.  LeSage corralled a long throw-in from junior defender Nicholas Keddie (Abington, Mass.) in the box and beat the Worcester keeper with a shot from about ten yards out.

LeSage notched his second goal of the afternoon in the 63rd minute as he knocked home the rebound of a Steve McAvoy (Walpole, Mass.) shot.  McAvoy received a long pass from junior midfielder Charlie Lawson (Plympton, Mass.) and ripped a shot off the crossbar from 15 yards out.  LeSage jumped on the rebound and slipped shot past the diving Lancer keeper and into the back of the net.

The Bears, who had the majority of the scoring chances, outshot the Lancers, 16-4, and held a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.  McAvoy finished with two assists on the afternoon.

BSU sophomore netminder Colin Jepson (Sandwich, Mass.) was forced to make just one save as he posted his fourth shutout of the season.  Junior goaltender Tim Schmidt (Southwick, Mass.) turned aside six shots between the pipes for the Lancers.

In upcoming action, the Bears travel to Babson College on Sunday afternoon for a two o'clock non-conference match with the Beavers.  The Lancers entertain non-conference foe Wheelock College on Tuesday night at seven.
