Men's Soccer Falls to Brandeis, 4-1

WALTHAM, Mass. -- Brandeis University defeated visiting Bridgewater State University, 4-1, in non-conference men's soccer action on Saturday afternoon in Waltham.

Senior forward Tyler Savonen (Orleans, Mass.) paced the host Judges (3-0) with two goals and an assist.

Savonen volleyed a crossing pass from sophomore forward Evan Jastremski (Marshfield, Mass.) into the right side of the net to open the scoring 12 minutes into the contest.

Sophomore forward Zach Vieira (Andover, Mass.) scored off a through ball from Savonen in the 24th minute to make it a 2-0 game.  The Judges extended their lead to 3-0 in the 31st minute as Savonen netted his second marker of the day off an assist from senior midfielder Foti Andreo (Lynn, Mass.).

BSU sophomore forward Prince Collins (Boston, Mass.) got the Bears (1-2) on the board just 48 seconds before halftime as he lofted a shot from 35 yards out that deflected in off the far post.

Sophomore midfielder Josh Ocel (North Attleboro, Mass.) capped off the scoring in the 52nd minute as he knocked home a rebound after back-to-back saves by BSU sophomore keeper Colin Jepson (Sandwich, Mass.).

Brandeis held a 14-8 shot advantage for the game as well as a 4-0 edge in corner kicks.

Senior netminder Joe Graffy (Concord, N.H.) picked up the win between the pipes for the Judges as he made two saves.  Jepson turned aside four shots in the setback.

Brandeis travels to Lasell College on Tuesday afternoon for a four o'clock game with the Lasers.  Bridgewater has an eight-day lay-off before taking on Plymouth State University at the New Hampton School in New Hampton, New Hampshire on Sunday, September 14th also at four.
