Conor Murtagh Named MASCAC Men's Soccer Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University sophomore forward Conor Murtagh has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men’s Soccer Player of the Week.

Murtagh was named the MVP of the 2013 MASCAC Tournament as he netted a pair of game-winning goals in leading Bridgewater State to the tournament title.  The Walpole, Massachusetts native potted the winning tally in the 85th minute of the Bears’ 1-0 championship game victory over Worcester State and notched the game’s only goal in a 1-0 semifinal win over Framingham State.

In 14 games this season, Murtagh has notched four goals as he ranks third on the team in scoring with eight points.  Three of his four goals have been game-winners.

The BSU men’s soccer team is currently 10-7-3 on the season.  By virtue of their MASCAC Tournament title, the Bears will be making the program’s fourth appearance in the NCAA Division III Tournament and first since 2007.  Bridgewater will take on Amherst College in first round play on Saturday at Amherst.
