Men's Soccer Advances to MASCAC Tournament Semifinals with 2-0 Win over Fitchburg

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Sophomore midfielder Kolin Campbell (Norton, Mass.) and junior forward David Wilson (Charlton, Mass.) each netter first half goals to lead the Bridgewater State University Bears to a 2-0 shutout victory over visiting MCLA in the opening round of the 2013 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men's Soccer Tournament on Tuesday afternoon at Swenson Field.

The third-seeded Bears (8-7-3) advance to the tournament semifinals on Friday to take on second-seeded Framingham State at 11 AM in Framingham.  The sixth-seeded Falcons end the 2013 season with an overall record of 6-8-5.

Campbell opened the scoring in the 18th minute as he headed the ball inside the left post off a long throw-in from sophomore defender Nicholas Keddie (Abington, Mass.).  Wilson came off the bench to give the Bears the 2-0 lead as he scored off a breakaway in the 36th minute. The Fitchburg goalkeeper was able to get a piece of Wilson's shot but the ball found its way into the left corner of the net.

Senior netminder Matt Bagley (Braintree, Mass.) turned aside three shots to record his seventh shutout of the season and 11th of his career.  The BSU defense limited the Falcons to just seven shots and only three on frame as the Bears held a 25-7 shot advantage for the game.  Bridgewater also attempted all 14 corner kicks.

Fitchburg junior Aidan Hanratty (East Bridgewater, Mass.) had a busy day between the pipes for the Falcons as he recorded 12 saves with six coming in each half.

The Bears are now 10-1-1 against the Falcons over their last 12 meetings and 20-10-5 overall since 1980.
