Men's Soccer Downs MASCAC Foe MCLA, 3-1, on Senior Day

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University men's soccer team posted a 3-1 Senior Day victory against Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) foe MCLA on Saturday afternoon.

Senior forwards Colin Neri (Upton, Mass.) and Craig Shadduck (Braintree, Mass.) notched first half goals, while sophomore forward Conor Murtagh (Walpole, Mass.) potted a second half tally as the Bears improved to 7-7-2 on the season and 3-1-2 in the MASCAC.  The Trailblazers slide to 4-8-1 overall and 1-4-1 in conference play.

BSU dented the scoreboard in 20th minute when Neri rifled a shot into corner of the net after a long throw-in was deflected by an MCLA defender off the post.  Shadduck then converted a penalty kick in the 35th minute to give the Bears a 2-0 lead after the Trailblazers were whistled for a foul in the box off a cross.

MCLA cut the deficit to 2-1 with just 51 seconds remaining in the opening stanza when junior midfielder Lucas Pricket (Westhampton, Mass.) converted a long cross from freshman forward Dylan Pereira (Ludlow, Mass.).

Bridgewater State dominated the second stanza limiting the Trailblazers to zero shots on goal while the hosts kept a consistent attack recording nine shots.  The Bears added an insurance marker in the 82nd minute when the ball deflected off the MCLA goaltender and Murtagh's rebound attack flew to the right corner of the net.

Senior netminder Matt Bagley (Braintree, MA) recorded his seventh win of the season between the pipes for the Bears.  Junior Matt Robinson (Petersham, Mass.) and senior Shawn Willis (Stephentown, N.Y.) combined to make four saves for MCLA.

Bridgewater held a 15-3 shot advantage for the game as well as a 6-0 edge in corner kicks

Neri and Shadduck both have six goals on the season while Murtagh tallied his second of the 2013 campaign.

Prior to the game, the Bears honored seniors Bagley, Neri, Shadduck and defender Luke Samperi (North Easton, Mass.)

Bridgewater travels to Salem State University next Saturday afternoon to take on the Vikings at one in the MASCAC and regular season finale for both teams.  The Bears would sew up the second seed in the MASCAC Tournament with a win over the Vikings.  MCLA entertains non-conference foe Sage on Tuesday afternoon at 3:30.
