Men's Soccer Blanks Lasell, 3-0

NEWTON, Mass. -- Bridgewater State men's soccer cracked Lasell College's five-game winning streak, and a previously unbeaten record, with a 3-0 defeat of the Lasers Wednesday afternoon on Taylor Field.

The setback leaves Lasell's overall record at 6-1-1 on the year while the Bears' slate lifts to 4-3-1.

Bridgewater jumped on top quickly in the ninth minute when Ramon Ambrosio (Canton, Mass.) delivered a cross field pass to Simao Mendes (Brockton, Mass.) who scored from the left side to put the Bears on top,1-0.

Mendes started the play that upped the score just nine minutes into the second frame.  The junior forward directed a pass intended for Donald Flores (Cranston, R.I.) as he sprinted to the Lasell goal.  Flores collected the pass and converted on the play to give the visitors a two goal cushion.

The Bears never let up, out shooting Lasell 16-3 in the second half and 23-12 for the game.  With less than two minutes left to play, Mendes struck again, scooping up a long ball from Bryan Martin (Charlton, Mass.) and carrying it down center field before striking from 10 yards out to bring about the final score.  For Mendes, the goal marked his team-leading fifth of the season.

Both keepers faced penalty kicks in the final 10 minutes of play, but neither team profited from the opportunity.  BSU junior Joe Parsons (Springfield, Mass.) made three saves on the afternoon and preserved the shutout with an outstanding stop on the PK attempt.  Lasell freshman Aren Moorman (Somerset, N.J.) ended the contest with a nine stops.
