Men's Soccer Plays Westfield to 0-0 Double Overtime Draw

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Bridgewater State and Westfield State men's soccer teams played to a 0-0 double overtime draw in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) opener for both teams.

Bridgewater State keeps its overall record even on the season as the Bears are now 2-2-1 (0-0-1 MASCAC).  Westfield goes to 4-1-1 (0-0-1 MASCAC) on the year.

BSU sophomore netminder Joe Parsons (Springfield, Mass.) and his counterpart senior Jeff Pepoli (Ashburnham, Mass.) each turned aside five shots in the scoreless game.  Both now have two shutouts on the season.

Bridgewater held a 23-11 shot advantage as well as a 7-3 edge in corner kicks.  Shots on frame however stood at five apiece.

The game was physical throughout with 38 fouls being called and eight yellow cards handed out.  Each team had four yellows apiece.

Pepoli made the only save in overtime as he stopped a Donald Flores (Cranston, Mass.) shot in the 107th minute.  Sophomore forward Craig Shadduck (Braintree, Mass.) registered two of the Bears' five shots on goal for the game and notched seven shots overall.  Senior forward Tim Parsons (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) had three shots on frame for the visiting Owls.

Bridgewater State will visit Rhode Island College on Tuesday afternoon  at 4:00 PM, while Westfield heads to Elms College also on Tuesday at four.
