BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University men's soccer team notched three first half goals as the host Bears posted a 3-1 non-conference win over Plymouth State University on Saturday afternoon at Swenson Field.

Freshman forward Ramon Ambrosio (Canton, Mass.) paced Bridgewater with a goal and an assist as the Bears improved to 2-1 on the season.

Junior forward Simao Mendes (Brockton, Mass.) opened the scoring in the tenth minute off a cross from Ambrosio.  Mendes tucked a shot inside the right post for his second goal of the 2011 campaign.

Sophomore forward Craig Shadduck (Braintree, Mass.) upped the BSU lead to 2-0 in the 23rd minute with his first marker of the season as he scored off a rebound of a Dan Roberts (Braintree, Mass.) shot.

Less than seven minutes later, Ambrosio tallied his first collegiate goal off a long volley from junior midfielder Tucker Fairbanks (Plympton, Mass.). After collecting the pass to the left of the net, Ambrosio dribbled past the Plymouth goalkeeper and slid a shot into the open goal.

Plymouth got on the board in the 63rd minute with sophomore Jake Sjoberg (Linkoping, Sweden) doing the scoring for the visitors.  Senior midfielder Dre Cabral (Tokyo, Japan) set up the goal with a long pass inside the 18.

Bridgewater held an 18-9 shot advantage for the game as well as a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.

Sophomore goaltender Joe Parsons (Springfield, Mass.) notched his second win of the season as he turned aside two shots.  Plymouth State sophomore Joe Drapeau (Lincoln, Mass.) made six saves between the pipes for the Panthers.

Bridgewater returns to the pitch tomorrow (Sunday) afternoon when the Bears host Amherst College at 3:00 PM.  Plymouth will entertain Tufts University on Wednesday, September 14th at 6:00 PM.
