Men's Soccer Falls to Gordon in Overtime, 3-2

WENHAM, Mass. -- Behind a hat-trick from Andrew Vandervoort (Memphis, Tenn.), the Gordon College men's soccer team completed a come-from-behind, 3-2 overtime win over non-conference foe Bridgewater State University on Wednesday afternoon.

With Bridgewater dominating much of the early minutes, the Scots found themselves down, 1-0, after the Bears' Donald Flores (Cranston, R.I.) netted an unassisted goal in the 23rd minute. Bridgewater's Adam Smith (Kingston, Mass.) finished a ball from Jaime Sinno (Foxboro, Mass.) with seven minutes to play in the opening stanza to increase the Bears' advantage to 2-0.

Gordon got on the board early in the second when Vandervoort scored off a pass from Travis Masters (Annapolis, Md.) just a minute and a half into the period to close the gap to 2-1.  The game remained that way until the 83rd minute when Vandervoort headed home a ball from Blake Berkey (Akron, Ohio) to send the game into extra time.

Carrying that momentum, Vandervoort struck again for the game-winner in the 98th minute when he buried an assist from Kristian Kasiguran (Oakwood Village, Ohio) to lift the Scots to their first win of the young season.

Keeper Alex Sosler (Cleveland, Ohio) turned away four shots on the day for Gordon, while Bridgewater keeper Joe Parsons (Springfield, Mass.) tallied 11 saves.

Gordon held an 18-12 shot advantage for the game.

The Scots (1-1-1) return to play on Saturday, September 10 as they travel to Nichols College for their Commonwealth Coast Conference opener. Bridgewater (1-1) will play host to Plymouth State on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
