Men's Soccer Falls to Amherst, 5-0

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Amherst College men's soccer team posted a 5-0 shutout victory over host Bridgewater State University on Sunday afternoon at Swenson Field.

Visiting Amherst remains unbeaten on the season as they improve to 4-0-2. The Lord Jeffs have not allowed a goal over the last three games, outscoring their opponents 14-0 during that span.  Bridgewater falls to 6-2 overall as the Bears suffered their first shutout loss of the season.

Amherst received goals from five different players. Senior forward Ian Rothkopf (Harvard, Mass.) scored in the 23rd minute as the Lord Jeffs took a 1-0 lead into halftime. Junior forward James Mooney (Princeton, N.J.), sophomore forward Spencer Noone (Farmington, Conn.), freshman midfielder Andrew Bixler (Southington, Conn.), and sophomore midfielder Federico Sucre (Caracas, Venezuela) added second half tallies with the final two goals coming in the last five minutes of the contest.

The Lord Jeffs held a 25-4 shot advantage for the game including a 14-0 edge in the second half.

Junior Lennard Kovacs (Wolfersdorf, Germany) made two saves to earn the win in goal for Amherst. Sophomore Brandon Saldana (Garden City, N.Y.) played the final 11 minutes and 34 seconds in relief of Kovacs and did not face a shot. Junior DJ Siewierski (Stow, Mass.) turned aside nine shots for the Bears.

Bridgewater hosts Lasell College on Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 PM. Amherst travels to Williams College on Saturday at noon for a key NESCAC match with the Ephs.
