Fraser Leads Men's Soccer to 2-0 Shutout of Fitchburg State

FITCHBURG, Mass. –- The visiting Bridgewater State men's soccer team blanked Fitchburg State, 2-0, in MASCAC action at Elliot Field on Saturday evening.

The Bears received single scores in each period to earn its second MASCAC victory of the season and remain atop the league standings.

Junior forward Mike Fraser (Marshfield, Mass.) sparked the Bears offense with a game-best three points, including one goal and one assist, while senior Mike White (Canton, Mass.) chipped in with one marker.

In the first period, the Bears ended a 34 minute scoreless drought as Fraser found the back of the net for his fourth goal of the season. Fraser used a midfield feed from freshman Craig Shadduck (Braintree, Mass.) and tucked the ball inside the near post for the game's opening score.

Bridgewater State capitalized again late in the second period, gaining a 2-0 lead and securing its sixth victory of the season. This time White struck for the Bears, posting his first goal of the season on a header off Fraser's throw-in. Fraser tossed the ball a strong 25 yards from the near sideline into the Fitchburg State box and White one-timed the ball with his head, beating the out-stretched reach of sophomore goaltender Evan DeAmicis (Townsend, Mass.).

Fitchburg State tested the Bridgewater State defense and junior goalkeeper DJ Siewierski (Stow, Mass.)  through the match, registering eight shots on target, but the Bears controlled possession with a game-best 18 attempts in the contest. Siewierski earned the victory for the Bears posting eight saves, while DeAmicis stopped three shots in the loss for the Falcons.
