BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Senior forward Jared Barbosa (Lowell, MA) scored a pair of goals to lead the fourth seeded Salem State College Vikings to a 3-1 victory over top seed Bridgewater State College in MASCAC men's soccer tournament semifinal action at Swenson Field.

Salem State evens their record at 8-8. The Vikings will travel to second seeded Westfield State College on Saturday to take on the Owls in the MASCAC Championship game. Westfield defeated Framingham State College, 3-2, in the other semifinal matchup.  Bridgewater State ends the season with a record of 9-5-3.

After a scoreless first half, Barbosa broke the tie with a blast from twenty-five yards out giving the Vikings a 1-0 lead in the 58th minute. The Bears tied it up on a penalty kick by senior forward Luke Brewer (Edgartown, MA) in the 67th minute.  For Brewer it was his team-leading 12th goal of the season. Freshman forward Simao Mendes (Brockton, MA) drew the foul which led to the penalty kick call.

Barbosa scored the game-winning goal just five minutes after the penalty shot as he corralled a long volley inside the 18 and drilled a shot past the BSC keeper.  Salem came up with a key insurance goal from senior forward Andrew Angus (Boston, MA) with just nine minutes left to play in the game.

Bridgewater State outshot the Vikings 17-15 and held an 8-4 advantage in corner kicks. There were ten cards handed out, including two reds.  Seven of the cards were give to Salem State and three to Bridgewater.

Junior goaltender Luis Marques (Fall River, MA) made five saves in goal for the Vikings.  Bridgewater State senior netminder Ryan Seifert (East Longmeadow, MA) turned aside four shots in the losing effort.
