BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State College and UMass Dartmouth battled to a 1-1 double overtime tie in non-conference men's soccer action this afternoon from Swenson Field in Bridgewater.

With the tie, Bridgewater is now 8-4-3 on the season while UMass goes to 8-6-2.

Freshman forward Simao Mendes (Brockton, MA) scored on penalty kick in the 83rd minute to secure the tie for the host Bears.  For Mendes, it was his fourth penalty kick goal of the season as he is a perfect 4-for-4 in PK opportunities.  Sophomore forward Chris Swindell (Milford, MA) drew the foul for BSC as he was taken down in the box.

Junior midfielder Jason Couto (Somerset, MA) gave the visiting Corsairs an early 1-0 lead as he scored off an assist from junior forward Giuliano Basile (East Longmeadow, MA) less than three minutes into the game.

Senior netminder Ryan Seifert (Ludlow, MA) made 11 saves in goal for Bridgewater State which held a 21-18 shot advantage.  The Bears also had an 8-3 edge in corner kicks.

Freshman goaltender John Doucette (Boxford, MA) played the first half for UMass and turned aside two shots.  Fellow freshman Kellen Rauch (Ashland, MA) was the goalie of record for the Corsairs as registered four saves over the final 65 minutes.  UMass was also credited with three team saves.

Five yellow cards were handed out in the game with three going to UMass and two to Bridgewater.  Fouls were even at 14 apiece.

Prior to the game, five Bridgewater State seniors were honored as they were playing in their finals regular season home game.  Those honored along with Seifert were midfielder Matt Daniels (South Easton, MA), forwards Luke Brewer (Edgartown, MA) and Eusebio Cumplido (Pawtucket, RI), and defender Tim Cuprinski (Brockton, MA).

Bridgewater will travel to Mass. Maritime Academy on Friday evening for a six o'clock MASCAC game with the Buccaneers.  UMass heads to Western Connecticut State University on Saturday for a Little East Conference match with the Colonials. Game time is slated for 1 PM.
