Swindell Leads Men's Soccer to 4-2 Win over Fitchburg

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Sophomore forward Chris Swindell (Milford, MA) scored a pair of goals and added an assist to lead Bridgewater State College to a 4-2 victory over Fitchburg State in MASCAC men's soccer action this afternoon in Bridgewater.

BSC (5-4-1) remains undefeated in conference play as the Bears improve to 3-0 in the MASCAC.  Fitchburg (1-6-2) falls to 0-2-1 in the league standings.

Bridgewater State jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead as the Bears scored three times in the first 25 minutes of play.  Freshman forward Tucker Fairbanks (Plympton, MA) opened the scoring in the eighth minute with his first collegiate goal.  Swindell and senior midfielder Matt Daniels (South Easton, MA) assisted on the tally.

Swindell notched his fourth goal of the season in the 15th minute, and Daniels made it a 3-0 game in the 25th minute as he headed in a corner kick sent into the box by freshman midfielder Jon Sampson (Plympton, MA).

Trailing 3-0 at the half, Fitchburg scored a pair of goal less than a minute and a half apart to pull to within 3-2.  Junior midfielder Robbie Pacini (Stoneham, MA) got the Falcons on the board at the 59:26 mark, and sophomore midfielder Kevin Mascary (North Easton, MA) made it a one-goal game just 85 seconds later. 

Swindell notched his second goal of the game and fifth of the season in the 67th minute to give the Bears some breathing room. 

Senior netminder Ryan Seifert (Ludlow, MA) made three saves in goal for the Bears who held a 20-9 shot advantage as well as a 9-0 edge in corner kicks.  Senior goaltender Matt Carey (Stratford, CT) turned aside ten shots between the pipes for the Falcons.

Bridgewater travels to Johnson & Wales University for a non-conference game with the Wildcats on Thursday afternoon at 3:30 PM.  Fitchburg plays host to Johnson & Wales on Tuesday night at 7.
