BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State College men's soccer team held on for a 1-0 victory over the visiting Owls of Westfield State in Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference action this afternoon at Swenson Field.

The Bears even their overall record to 4-4 and remain undefeated in conference play with a 2-0 mark. Westfield falls to 2-5-1 on the season and 1-1 in the MASCAC.

Senior midfielder Matt Daniels (South Easton, MA) just barely squeaked in a header off a cross by freshman Tucker Fairbanks (Plympton, MA) in the 20th minute. At first it appeared that Westfield keeper Lucas Dexter (Acushnet, MA) kept the ball from crossing the goal line, but the linesman ruled that the ball had indeed made its way over the line. It was Daniels' second goal of the season.

Bridgewater was unable to capitalize on three breakaway opportunities over the course of the game. Daniels was stopped in the first half, while sophomore Jose DePina (Boston, MA) and senior Luke Brewer (Edgartown, MA) were unable to convert in the second half.

Senior goalie Ryan Seifert (Ludlow, MA) turned aside seven shots to record his fourth win and first shutout of the season. Dexter made eleven saves in a losing effort.

Bridgewater heads to Newton for a non-conference game against the Lasers of Lasell College on Wednesday the 30th for a gametime of 4:00. Westfield will head back home to face Albertus Magnus College also on Wednesday the 30th at 4.
