Men's Soccer Blanks Mitchell College, 3-0

NEW LONDON, Conn. -- The Bridgewater State College men's soccer team improved to 2-1 on the season with a 3-0 shutout victory over Mitchell College this afternoon in New London, Connecticut.

Senior forward Luke Brewer (Edgartown, MA) and sophomore forward Chris Swindell (Milford, MA) scored for the Bears who also were the recipients of an own goal.  The goals marked the first of the season for both Brewer and Swindell.  All three markers came in the opening half.

Brewer opened the scoring in the 13th minute of play as she blasted home a shot from just outside the 18.  Swindell gave BSC a 2-0 advantage less than two minutes later as she ripped a shot from inside the box into the top-left corner of the goal.

BSC's third goal came in the 23rd minute as a Mitchell defender headed a cross past his own goalkeeper and into the back of the net. 

Senior goaltender Ryan Seifert (Ludlow, MA) and sophomore netminder DJ Siewierski (Stow, MA) combined on the shutout.  Seifert made three saves, while Siewierski was credited with one after entering the game in the 79th minute.
