Men's Soccer Falls to Framingham State in Overtime, 1-0

Box Score

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. - The Bridgewater State College Bears dropped a 1-0 overtime decision to Framingham State College this afternoon in a MASCAC men's soccer match at Swenson Field in Bridgewater.

The loss was the third straight for the Bears who dropped to 9-4-2 on the season and 3-2-1 in the MASCAC.  Framingham notched its ninth shutout of the season and fifth straight win. The Rams improve to 13-2-1 overall and 5-0-1 in conference play as they remain atop the MASCAC standings.

The game was scoreless for the first 90 minutes of regulation and went into overtime to decide who would leave on top. Just three minutes into the extra session, senior midfielder Mike Jones (Norwood, MA) crossed the ball in front to sophomore midfielder Scott Faria (Fall River, MA) who ripped a shot into the back of the net for the game-winner.

Both keepers were extraordinary in net throughout the contest.  BSC senior goaltender Ryan Seifert (Ludlow, MA) tallied eight saves, diving across the net several times keeping the Bear's hopes alive. Sophomore keeper Greg Halle (Beverly, MA) had three saves for Framingham, making terrific catches in traffic, as well as clearing the ball deep for his team. Halle recorded his MASCAC leading eighth shutout of the season.

The Bears, who have scored just one goal in their last three games, held a slight 16-14 edge in shots while both teams had just two corner kicks apiece. Thirteen of BSC's 16 shots, however, were off frame.

Bridgewater, which is tied for third place in the MASCAC with MCLA, has two games remaining in the regular season.  The Bears travel to UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday night (6:00), and wrap up the regular season schedule next Saturday at home versus MASCAC rival Mass. Maritime Academy.  Game time is slated for 11 AM.  Framingham travels to Worcester to play non-conference opponent Clark University on Wednesday at 6 PM.
