Box Score

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. - The Bridgewater State College men's soccer team won their fourth straight game as the Bears downed the Wildcats of Johnson & Wales University, 4-1, this afternoon from Swenson Pitch in Bridgewater.

The Bears, ranked tenth in New England Division III, are also unbeaten in their last eight games as they improve to 8-1-2 on the season. Johnson & Wales drops to 3-9 as they had won three of their last four games heading into today's contest.

Junior midfielder Stephen Sciara (Scituate, MA) tallied his first two goals of the season for the Bears.  He opened the scoring with an unassisted tally just 26 seconds into the game. That, however, would also be the only goal of the first half as the Bears led 1-0 at the intermission.

Junior midfielder Peter Wahlgren (Shrewsbury, MA) gave BSC a 2-0 lead in the 58th minute as he rifled a shot past the JWU netminder off a long pass from junior defender Tim Cuprinski (Brockton, MA).

Johnson & Wales senior forward Jeremiah Schenzel (Carson City, NV) cut the deficit to 2-1 in the 73rd minute as he headed in a corner kick attempt that came off the foot of junior midfielder Scott Kirchner (Irvine, CA).

BSC junior forward Luke Brewer (Edgartown, MA) gave BSC a two-goal cushion again in the 87th minute.  Brewer was sent in on a breakaway off a long pass from Wahlgren and ripped a shot into the far left corner of the goal.

Sciara then put the game out of reach less than four minutes later as he scored his second goal of the game off a rebound of a Jon Nutting (Rockland, MA) shot.

The Bears outshot the Wildcats by a margin of 22-12, while Johnson & Wales held a 5-1 advantage in corner kick opportunities.

BSC senior goaltender Ryan Seifert (Ludlow, MA) made four saves in goal for the Bears to pick up his eighth win of the season.  JWU freshman netminder Austin Carpenter (Overland Park, KA) turned aside six shots between the pipes for the Wildcats.

Bridgewater will host conference foe Worcester State College on Saturday at 11 AM.  Johnson & Wales is off until next Monday when the Wildcats travel to Wheaton College to take on the Lyons at 1 PM.
