Men's Soccer Blanks Fitchburg State, 1-0

FITCHBURG, Mass. -- The Fitchburg State men's soccer team suffered a tough 1-0 setback to Bridgewater State College in Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action this afternoon at Elliot Field.

Bridgewater State junior Peter Wahlgren (Shrewsbury, Mass.) scored the lone goal of the match for the Bears, while Donald Flores (Cranston, R.I.) notched an assist.

Bridgewater State connected early in the first half as Wahlgren tallied his second goal of the season in the 17th minute off a dish from Flores. With the win, the Bears improved to 7-1-2 on the season with a 2-0-1 record in the MASCAC.

Fitchburg State played well in the loss, out-shooting Bridgewater State 18-13 in the match, including a 10-6 advantage in the first frame.

Junior goaltender Matt Carey (Stratford, Conn.) collected six saves for the Falcons in the losing effort.  BSC senior Ryan Seifert (Ludlow, Mass.) stopped ten shots for the Bears to record his fourth shutout of the season. The senior netminder has allowed just six goals in nine games this season and only two in his last five games.

Fitchburg State (4-6, 0-3 MASCAC) is back in action on Saturday as it travels to Westfield State College at 12 p.m.  Bridgewater State will host Johnson and Wales University on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
