Sorge Nets Game-Winner as Men's Soccer Wins Opener

Bristol, R.I. -- Senior midfielder Jarrett Sorge (West Boylston, MA) snapped a 1-1 tie early in the second half to lead the Bridgewater State College men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Merchant Marine Academy in the semifinals of the season-opening Roger Williams University Turfer Classic this afternoon in Bristol, Rhode Island.

With the win, the Bears (1-0) will take on host Roger Williams in the tournament championship game on Sunday afternoon at 1:30.  Roger Williams knocked off St. Joseph's, 6-1, in their semifinal match.

Sorge notched the game-winning goal just 2:12 into the second half.  Senior midfielder Matt Daniels (South Easton, MA) headed a shot off the crossbar and Sorge headed the rebound into the back of the net.

BSC trailed 1-0 late in the first half when junior midfielder Peter Wahlgren (Shrewsbury, MA) drilled a bending cross from 35 yards out which found its way past the outstretched hand of the Merchant Marine goaltender and into the back of the net.  The game-tying goal came with just 36 seconds left in the opening stanza. Junior forward Eusebio Cumplido (Pawtucket, RI) picked up the assist on Wahlgren's goal.

Senior Ryan Seifert (Ludlow, MA) registered seven saves in goal for the Bears who were outshot in the game by a margin of 18-7.

Senior midfielder Benjamin Inouye (Papaikou, HI) gave Merchant Marine the early 1-0 lead as he scored off a corner kick midway through the first half.
