Joseph Carty Named MASCAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University junior forward Joseph Carty has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men's Basketball Player of the Week.

A native of Natick, Massachusetts, Carty averaged 17 points, 13 rebounds and 2.5 assists while shooting 54 percent (13-24) from the floor and 100 percent (8-8) at the free throw line in a 1-1 week for the Bears.

Carty recorded a double-double with 24 points and 15 boards while adding three assists and two blocked shots in an 83-77 win over MASCAC foe Fitchburg State University. He also notched his fourth double-double of the season with ten points and 11 boards to go along with two assists and a steal in a 73-72 conference road setback to Salem State University.

In 14 games this season, Carty is averaging 11.5 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. He currently ranks fifth in the MASCAC in rebounding.

In 34 games over his first two seasons with the Bears, Carty has amassed 395 points, 303 rebounds, 42 assists, 17 steals and 15 blocked shots.

The BSU men's basketball team is currently 8-8 on the season and 1-2 in the MASCAC. The Bears entertain conference rival Worcester State University on Wednesday evening at 5:30.
