Men's Basketball Sets Single-Game Scoring Mark in 121-77 Win over Maine-Augusta

NORTHFIELD, Vt. -- The Bridgewater State University men's basketball team set the program record for points in a game as the Bears posted a 121-77 victory over the University of Maine at Augusta in the consolation game of the 2016 Ed Hockenbury Classic hosted by Norwich University on Sunday afternoon.

Bridgewater improves to 4-3 on the season, while the Moose fall to 2-9.

The Bears eclipsed the previous mark of 119 points set back on December 10, 1974, a 119-87 win over Fitchburg State.

Senior guard Fawaz Mass (Taunton, Mass.) paced Bridgewater State with 20 points, five rebounds, two assists, two blocked shots and a pair of steals in 22 minutes of action. Mass, who garnered All-Tournament honors, was a perfect 6-for-6 from the floor, 4-for-4 from three-point range and 4-for-4 at the free throw line.

Junior guard Rocky DeAndrade (Mansfield, Mass.) added 20 points, five rebounds, six assists and five steals for the Bears, while senior forward Greg Romanko (Mansfield, Mass.) checked in with 19 points. Romanko connected on 5 of 7 three-point field goals.

The BSU bench outscored the Maine-Augusta reserves, 49-7. Sophomore forward Matthieu Midouin (Taunton, Mass.) came off the bench to score 11 points in just nine minutes of action.

Twelve different players scored for the Bears who shot 58% (43-74) from the floor, 47% (14-30) from behind the arc and 78% (21-27) at the free throw line.

Junior guard Jordan Holmes (Oakland, Maine), sophomore forward Dustin Simpson-Bragg (Fairfield, Maine) and sophomore guard Noah Thompson (Yuma, Ariz.) combined to score 66 of Maine's 77 points. Holmes led all players with 26 points, while Simpson-Bragg tallied 24 and Thompson added 16. Holmes went 9-for-19 from the field and 6-for-10 from three-point range.

Bridgewater held a 51-27 rebounding advantage including a 17-8 margin on the offensive boards. The Bears also held the edge in points off turnovers (25-15), second chance points (22-6), points in the paint (52-20) and fast-break points (18-2).

The Moose shot 41% (27-66) from the field, 40% (14-35) from three-point land and 69% (9-13) at the charity stripe.

The BSU men's basketball team is back in action on Wednesday night when the Bears travel to Wheaton College for a seven o'clock game with the Lyons.
