Men's Basketball Falls to #10 John Carroll, 89-68

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- The Bridgewater State University men's basketball team dropped an 89-68 decision to tenth ranked John Carroll University on Wednesday afternoon at the Land of Magic Classic in Daytona Beach, Florida.

The Blue Streaks remain unbeaten on the season as they improve to 11-0, while the Bears slip to 3-7 overall.

Simon Kucharewicz tallied 14 points on 7 of 9 shooting to lead the way for John Carroll. Kucharewicz also pulled down 11 rebounds for the double-double while adding four assists, a block and two steals.

Doug Caputo poured in a game-high 18 points on 8 of 12 shooting for the Blue Streaks while Antonio Vuyancih and Ryan Farragher chipped in ten points apiece.

Joseph Carty paced Bridgewater State with his fourth double-double of the season. Carty notched ten points and a game-high 16 rebounds to go along with three assists, two blocked shots and a steal.

Ryan Carney scored a team-high 12 points in 12 minutes off the bench. Carney connected on 4 of 9 three-point field goals. Jamir Henderson added ten points in 20 minutes off the bench.

John Carroll broke out to a 26-5 lead midway through the first half and never looked back. The Blue Streaks held a 43-22 lead at the break and got up by as many as 28 points (85-59) in the second half before settling for the 89-68 victory.

John Carroll shot 43% (36-84) from the floor, while Bridgewater State connected on just 35% (24-69) of its field goal attempts. The Blue Streaks held a 23-7 advantage in points off turnovers as well as a 52-30 edge in points in the paints.

The Bears are off until next Tuesday night when they travel to Bowdoin College for a 7:30 game with the Polar Bears.
