Men's Basketball Falls to Cortland, 100-67

CORTLAND, N.Y. -- SUNY Cortland posted a 100-67 win over visiting Bridgewater State University on Saturday during day two of the Cortaca Classic.

The host Red Dragons improve to 3-0 on the young season, while the Bears slip to 1-4 overall.

Carrel Joseph paced Cortland with 23 points on 9 of 12 shooting to go along with nine rebounds as he was named to the All-Tournament Team. JP Reagan added 17 points and four rebounds in 16 minutes off the bench for the Red Dragons. Reagan was a perfect 7-for-7 from the floor including 3-for-3 from behind the arc.

Greg Romanko led the way for Bridgewater State with 17 points, six rebounds and two blocked shots. Romanko, who garnered All-Tournament honors, connected on 6 of 9 field goal attempts including 5-for-8 from three-point range. Joseph Carty checked in with 12 points and nine boards.

The Red Dragons used a 17-2 run towards the middle of the first half to turn a one-point lead (20-19) into a double-digit advantage (37-21). Cortland maintained the double-figure lead the rest of the way and got up by as many as 40 points (93-53) in the second half.

Cortland shot 49% from the floor, connected on 15 of 33 (46%) three-point attempts, and went 13-for-17 (77%) at the free throw line. The Red Dragons committed just five turnovers while forcing 19 as they held a decided 34-4 advantage in points off turnovers.

The Bears connected on 46% (25-55) of their field goal attempts and went 9-for-21 (43%) from long range.

Bridgewater State is back in action on Tuesday night as the Bears host Rhode Island College at 7:30.
