Men's Basketball Edges Framingham State, 66-64, in Babson Invitational Consolation

BABSON PARK, Mass.—Junior Fawaz Mass (Taunton, Mass.) finished with 19 points and classmate Patrick McGuinness (New City, N.Y.) scored the go-ahead hoop with two minutes to go as the Bridgewater State University men's basketball team edged Framingham State University, 66-64, in the consolation game of the Babson Invitational Tournament on Saturday afternoon at Staake Gymnasium.

With the win, Bridgewater State is now 1-1 on the year, while Framingham State drops to 0-2.

Mass garnered all-tournament honors for Bridgewater State. Junior Conor Dunleavy (Winchester, Mass.) added 13 points and nine rebounds, while sophomore Joseph Carty (Natick, Mass.) chipped in with 10 points and five boards.

Junior Daniel Gould (Quincy, Mass.) knocked down six three-pointers and led all scorers with 22 points for the Rams. Senior Joseph McCabe (Canton, Mass) added 15 points and sophomore Tony Alexandre (Hyde Park, Mass.) finished with eight points and game-high 12 rebounds.

Bridgewater State jumped out to an early 10-point lead, but Framingham State responded with a 17-7 run to tie the game at 24 with 7:58 left in the opening half after back-to-back triples by Gould. Mass and Dunleavy combined for 10 of the Bears' final 14 points of the first half to grab a 37-29 lead at the break.

Bridgewater State led by as many as 12 early in the second half before the Rams rallied with a 17-4 run to take a 46-45 lead with 12:19 remaining. Framingham State took a 60-54 advantage, its biggest of the game, on a three-pointer by McCabe with 6:46 left, but Dunleavy and Mass ripped off six straight points to pull even at the 5:31 mark.

Alexandre put the Rams back up 64-62 with 4:41 to play, but consecutive hoops by sophomore Rocky DeAndrade (Mansfield, Mass.) and McGuinness gave the Bears a 66-64 edge with 2:00 remaining. Framingham State had four late chances to tie or take the lead, but came up empty as neither team scored in the final two minutes.

Both teams return to action on Tuesday as the Rams host Newbury at 6 p.m., while Bridgewater State travels to MIT at 8 p.m.
