Michael Lofton Named MASCAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the fourth straight week, seventh time this season and an impressive 12th time in his career, Bridgewater State University senior forward Michael Lofton has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.

A native of Mansfield, Massachusetts, Lofton averaged 21.5 points, 17 rebounds, 2.5 steals and a blocked shot in a 1-1 week for the Bears. He also shot 49 percent (16-33) from the floor and 79 percent (11-14) at the free throw line.

Lofton tallied 22 points, 17 rebounds and four steals in an 81-77 overtime win over Westfield State.  He also notched 21 points, 17 rebounds and two blocks in a 76-68 overtime setback to Framingham State.

In 19 games this season, Lofton is averaging 18.7 points, ten rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.7 steals and 1.4 blocks.  He is also shooting 54% (133-245) from the floor.

Lofton currently leads the MASCAC in scoring and is second in rebounding.  He also ranks third in the conference in field goal percentage, fifth in steals, blocks and assist to turnover ratio (+1.5), and sixth in assists.

In 100 games over four seasons with the Bears, Lofton has amassed 1,378 points, 843 rebounds, 180 assists, 150 blocked shots and 180 steals.  He is currently the Bears' all-time leader in field goal percentage (.606) and blocked shots, and is second all-time in rebounding. Lofton also ranks 12th among the team's career scoring leaders.

The BSU men's basketball team is currently 14-7 on the season and 7-2 in the MASCAC. The Bears take on Worcester State University on Wednesday night at eight. The game will be played at Assumption College.
