Michael Lofton Named MASCAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the third straight week, sixth time this season and an impressive 11th time in his career, Bridgewater State University senior forward Michael Lofton has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.

A native of Mansfield, Massachusetts, Lofton posted a double-double with 24 points and 13 rebounds to go along with three assists and a steal in the Bears' 70-62 MASCAC win over MCLA this past weekend.  He also shot 54% (7-13) from the floor in the victory over the Trailblazers.

In 17 games this season, Lofton is averaging 18.4 points, 9.2 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.6 steals and 1.4 blocks.  He is also shooting 55% (117-212) from the floor.

Lofton currently leads the MASCAC in scoring and is second in rebounding.  He also ranks third in the conference in assists, field goal percentage and assist to turnover ratio (+1.5) as well as fifth in both steals and blocks.

In 98 games over four seasons with the Bears, Lofton has amassed 1,335 points, 809 rebounds, 178 assists, 148 blocked shots and 175 steals.  He is currently the Bears' all-time leader in field goal percentage (.611) and blocked shots, and ranks 12th among the team's career scoring leaders.

The BSU men's basketball team is currently 13-6 on the season and 6-1 in the MASCAC. The Bears, winners of six straight games, entertain conference foe Westfield State University on Tuesday night at 7:30. Westfield sits atop the MASCAC standings with a 7-0 league mark.
