Michael Lofton Named MASCAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the second straight week, fifth time this season and an impressive tenth time in his career, Bridgewater State University senior forward Michael Lofton has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.

A native of Mansfield, Massachusetts, Lofton averaged 21.0 points, 11.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 2.5 steals and 1.5 blocked shots while shooting 60 percent (18-30) from the floor in a perfect 2-0 week for the Bears.

Lofton tallied 15 points, nine rebounds, two assists, a block and a steal in a 58-56 MASCAC overtime win at Fitchburg State.  He capped off the week with 27 points, 14 rebounds, four assists, two blocks and four steals in an 87-85 conference victory at Salem State.  The double-double marked his seventh of the 2014-2015 campaign.

In 16 games this season, Lofton is averaging 18.0 points, 8.9 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.7steals and 1.5 blocks.  He is also shooting 55% (110-199) from the floor.

Lofton currently leads the MASCAC in scoring and is second in rebounding and third in assists. He also ranks fourth in the conference in field goal percentage and assist to turnover ratio (+1.6) as well as fifth in both steals and blocks.

In 97 games over four seasons with the Bears, Lofton has amassed 1,311 points, 796 rebounds, 175 assists, 148 blocked shots and 174 steals.  He is currently the Bears' all-time leader in field goal percentage (.612) and blocked shots, and ranks 12th among the team's career scoring leaders.

The BSU men's basketball team is currently 12-6 on the season and 5-1 in the MASCAC standings. The Bears, winners of five straight games, entertain conference foe MCLA on Saturday afternoon at three.
