Michael Lofton Named MASCAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the fourth time this season and an impressive ninth time in his career, Bridgewater State University senior forward Michael Lofton has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.

A native of Mansfield, Massachusetts, Lofton averaged 17.3 points, 9.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.7 blocks and 1.7 steals while shooting 49% (21-43) from the floor in a perfect 3-0 week for the Bears.

Lofton posted a double-double with 16 points and a season-high 14 rebounds to go along with five assists, two blocks and three steals in a 63-58 non-conference win over UMass Boston.  He capped off the week with another double-double performance pouring in a season-high 30 points to go along 11 boards as well as two blocks and two steals in a 71-65 MASCAC win over Framingham State.

In 14 games this season, Lofton is averaging 17.6 points, 8.6 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.6 steals and 1.5 blocks.  He is also shooting 54% (92-169) from the floor.

Lofton currently leads the MASCAC in scoring and is second in rebounding and tied for third in assists.  He also ranks fourth in the conference in steals, field goal percentage and assist to turnover ratio (+1.5) as well as fifth in blocks.

In 95 games over four seasons with the Bears, Lofton has amassed 1,269 points, 773 rebounds, 169 assists, 145 blocked shots and 169 steals.  He is currently the Bears' all-time leader in field goal percentage (.613) and blocked shots, and ranks 15th amongst the team's career scoring leaders.

The BSU men's basketball team is currently 10-6 on the season and 3-1 in the MASCAC standings. The Bears travel to conference foe Fitchburg State University on Tuesday night to take on the Falcons at 7:30.
