Rocky DeAndrade Named MASCAC Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University freshman guard Rocky DeAndrade has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men’s Basketball Rookie of the Week.

DeAndrade averaged eight points while shooting 50% (6-12) from the floor and 67% (4-6) from three-point range in a pair of the game at the BSU Bears Invitational this past weekend.  The Mansfield, Massachusetts native scored eight points and added an assist in 14 minutes of the bench in a 72-70 opening round setback to Clark University, and tallied eight points, two assists and a steal in 17 minutes off the bench in a 77-62 consolation game win over Medgar Evers College.

In four games this season, DeAndrade is averaging 6.8 points and 1.3 steals while shooting 50% (9-18) from the field, 75% (3-4) at the free throw line and 67% (6-9) from behind the arc.  The rookie has also committed just two turnovers while averaging 15.0 minutes of playing time.

DeAndrade comes to Bridgewater State after an outstanding basketball career at Mansfield High School.  He was named the Hockomock League MVP as a senior captain in 2013-2014 and was also selected to the Boston Herald All-Scholastic Team and the Sun Chronicle All-Star Team.  As a junior, DeAndrade helped the Hornets capture the Eastern Massachusetts Division I Tournament championship.

The  BSU men’s basketball team is currently 2-2 on the young season. The Bears travel to Rhode Island College on Tuesday night to take on the Anchormen at 7:30.
