Brendan Monteiro Named MASCAC Men's Basketball Co-Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University senior guard Brendan Monteiro has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men's Basketball Co-Player of the Week.  Monteiro shares the weekly honor along with senior forward Dane Jobst of Worcester State University.

Monteiro averaged 22.7 points and two steals in a 2-1 week for the Bears while shooting 54% (22-41) from the floor and 90% (18-20) at the free throw line.  The Brockton, Massachusetts product tallied 25 points with three rebounds, three assists and two steals in an 83-60 victory over MASCAC foe MCLA, and then poured in a career-high 33 points to go along with three steals in a 79-71 win over conference rival Westfield State.

In 14 games this season, Monteiro is averaging 14 points a game and shooting 41% (20-49) from three-point range and 72% (38-53) at the charity stripe.  He ranks third in the MASCAC in three-point shooting and is seventh in both scoring and free throw percentage.

In 92 game over four seasons of collegiate basketball, Monteiro has amassed 901 points, 199 rebounds, 147 assists and 70 steals.  He scored 489 points in two seasons at Wentworth (2008-2010) before transferring to Bridgewater State prior to the 2012-2013 campaign.

The MASCAC schedule resumes for the BSU men's basketball team on Tuesday evening when the Bears travel to Framingham State University to take on the Rams at eight.
