Lofton, Gibson, Monteiro Named to All-MASCAC Men's Basketball Team

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University junior forwards Michael Lofton and Kyle Gibson along with senior guard Brendan Monteiro have been voted by the league's coaches to the 2013-2014 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men's Basketball All-Conference Team.

Lofton, the Bears lone first team selection, was named to the All-MASCAC Team for the second straight season, while Gibson and Monteiro are making their first appearance on the all-conference team.

Through 25 games this season, all starts, Lofton is averaging 16.8 points, 9.2 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1.7 blocked shots and 1.9 steals.  He is also shooting 66% (169-255) from the floor and 64% (83-130) at the free throw line.

Lofton currently leads the MASCAC and is ranked fourth in all of Division III in field goal percentage.  The Mansfield, Massachusetts native also ranks second in the conference in blocks, third in both scoring and rebounding, and fifth in steals.

In 78 career games over his first three seasons, Lofton has amassed 987 points, 626 rebounds, 119 assists, 121 blocked shots and 144 steals.  He is presently the Bears' all-time leader in field goal percentage with a 64% (389-608) shooting mark.

Gibson has also started all 25 games for the Bears this season as he is averaging 13.1 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game while shooting 53% (128-240) from the floor and 66% (71-108) at the charity stripe.  The Franklin, Massachusetts product currently ranks second in the MASCAC in field goal percentage, seventh in rebounding, tenth in scoring and is tied for ninth in blocked shot (0.8 bpg).

In three seasons at Bridgewater State, Gibson has played in 63 games and made 41 starts. He has recorded 538 points, 269 rebounds, 33 blocked shots and 52 steals as well as a career shooting percentage of .507 (209-412).

A native of Brockton, Massachusetts, Monteiro has appeared in all 25 games this season and made 22 starts.  He is averaging 15.2 points, 2.4 assists and 1.2 steals per game while shooting 41% (40-97) from behind the arc and 74.5% (70-94) at the free throw line.

Monteiro presently leads the MASCAC in three-point shooting and ranks fifth in free throw percentage and eighth in scoring.

In 103 career games including two seasons at Wentworth, Monteiro has totaled 1,085 points, 222 rebounds, 176 assists and 82 steals. He is also a career 73% (225-309) shooter at the free throw line as well as 35% (84-239) from behind the arc.

Lofton, Gibson and Monteiro led Bridgewater State to a 14-11 regular season record in 2013-14 as well as an 8-4 mark in MASCAC play.  Seeded second in this week's conference tournament, the Bears received a first round bye and will host a semifinal game on Thursday evening at 7:30 against third-seeded Worcester State.  Worcester downed #6 Framingham State, 71-51, in opening round play on Tuesday night.
