Anthony Fortes Named MASCAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University senior guard Anthony Fortes has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Association (MASCAC) Men's Basketball Player of the Week.

Fortes, who hails from Providence, Rhode Island, averaged 17.3 points, four assists, three rebounds and 1.7 steals in a 2-1 week for the Bears which included a 72-68 MASCAC win over Framingham State and a 71-53 non-conference victory over UMass Boston.  The Providence, Rhode Island native shot 49% (20-41) from the floor and 62% (8-13) from three-point range on the week.

Fortes notched 15 points and six assists in the win against Framingham and tallied a career-high 27 points to go along with four caroms, five assists and three steals in a 66-64 setback to MASCAC foe Westfield State.

In 12 games this season, Fortes is averaging 12.9 points, 5.1 rebounds, three assists and 1.3 steals per game while shooting 38% (13-34) from behind the arc.  He currently ranks seventh in the MASCAC in three-point shooting, eighth in assists and 11th in scoring.

The Bridgewater State men's basketball is 6-7 on the season with a 2-1 mark in conference play.  The Bears host Trinity College in a non-conference game on Tuesday night at 7:00 PM and then head to Worcester State University on Thursday (8:00 PM) for a key MASCAC tilt with the Lancers.
