Men's Basketball Powers Past Penn College, 109-78

SELINSGROVE, Pa. -- The Bridgewater State University Bears knocked off the Wildcats of Penn College, 109-78, in the consolation game of the Pepsi/Weis Markets Tip-Off Tournament hosted by Susquehanna University on Saturday afternoon.

Bridgewater had six players finishing in double figures. Senior guard Judah Jackson (Everett, Mass.) led the Bears with 17 point and had 9 rebounds. Sophomore guard Shawn Yard (Brockton, Mass.) contributed 14 points, seven assists, and three steals, career highs in all, in only 14 minutes of play.

Senior guard Corey Connor (Providence, R.I.) added 15 points on 5 of 8 shooting from three-point range.  He also dished out six assists and recorded a pair of steals. 

Wildcat junior forward Leroy Joiner (Williamsport, Pa.) had a big game for his team. He totaled 20 points, 11 rebounds, 6 assists, as well as 2 steals.

Seven minutes into the game the Bears started to show their dominance, going on a 17-3 run, making the score 28-17 with 11 minutes to go in the half. Bridgewater was able to extend that advantage to as much as 20 (45-25) and took a 51-35 advantage into halftime

The Bears continued to build on to the lead over the final 20 minutes. They got up by as much as 36 points (105-69) before settling for the 109-78 victory.

Bridgewater was able to take advantage of 28 Wildcat miscues which resulted in 39 points for the Bears.  BSU also received 47 points from the bench led by Yard's 14 as well as ten from sophomore guard Anthony Fortes (East Providence, R.I.)

Also finishing in double-figure scoring for the Bears were senior forward Nicholas Motta (Fairhaven, Mass.) with 14 points and junior guard Corey Ryser (Tewksbury, Mass.) with 12.

With his 14 points, Motta increased his career scoring total to 992 as he continues to close in on the 1,000-point milestone.   Jackson, who was named to the All-Tournament Team, moved past Sean Carey (1,146 points) into 19th place on the Bears' all-time scoring list.  He now has 1,147 points since arriving at BSU along with Motta in 2007.

The Bears hope to continue their winning ways on Tuesday night when they travel to Rhode Island College to take on the Anchormen at 7:30.
