PHOENIX, Ariz. - The Bridgewater State College men's basketball team dropped an 86-72 decision to Wisconsin-Superior in semifinal round action of the 2008 Cactus Jam held at Phoenix College in Phoenix, Arizona.
Sophomore guard Judah Jackson (Everett, MA) paced Bridgewater State with 16 points, five rebounds and four steals.
The Bears (6-3) will take on Transylvania University on Tuesday
at 4:30 PM (EST) in the tournament's third-place game.
Bridgewater got off to a good start, taking a 19-9 lead on a
Nicholas Motta (Fairhaven, MA) three-pointer with
11:45 left in the first half. BSC held a 27-21 advantage with
8:43 remaining in the stanza, but managed just four points over the
final 8 ½ minutes as the Bears trailed 39-31 at the
intermission.
BSC pulled to within four points twice early in the second half
and trailed by just five points (66-61) with 7:20 to play.
Wisconsin-Superior, however, responded with an 11-2 run over the
next 2:23 to put the game out of reach.
The Bears shot 50% (31-for-62) from the floor but were just
3-for-15 from three-point range. Motta added 13 points and
five boards, while junior guard Matt McLaughlin
(Rochester, MA), senior center Roland Millien
(Stoughton, MA) and sophomore forward Cesar
Oliveira (Taunton, MA) finished with 10 points apiece.
Wisconsin-Superior connected on 33 of 59 field goal attempts (56%) and were 8 of 17 (47%) from behind the arc.
