Elvis Romero Named to New England Football Writers All-New England Team

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the second straight year, Bridgewater State University senior defensive tackle Elvis Romero has been selected to the New England Football Writers Division II/III All-New England Team.

In ten games this season, Romero accumulated 53 tackles (35 solo) including 16 tackles for loss and five sacks to go along with a pair of forced fumble. The Wayne, New Jersey product tied for second in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) in tackles for loss and tied for fifth in sacks.

In 40 games over four seasons with the Bears, Romero recorded 160 tackles with 111 solo stops. He also has 43 1/2 tackles for loss and 18 1/2 sacks to his credit as well as four forced fumbles.

The BSU football team finished the season with an overall record of 8-3 including a perfect 8-0 MASCAC mark. The Bears, who captured their first conference title since 2000, advanced to the NCAA Division III Tournament for the fourth time in program history (1999, 2000, 2012, 2016).

Earlier this month, Romero was one of 11 Bears named to the All-MASCAC Team as he garnered first team honors for the third straight season.

Joining Romero on this year’s New England Football Writers Division II-III All-Star Team from the MASCAC are Framingham State’s Campbell Marchant, Pat Sullivan of UMass Dartmouth, Mass. Maritime's Marshall McCarthy, and Plymouth State’s Zach Ziemba.

The 2016 Division II/III AllNew England Team will be honored at the New England Football Writers Captains and Awards Banquet on Thursday, December 8th at the Montvale Plaza in Stoneham. People interested in attending should contact Dick Lipe at Bentley University at 7818912334.
