BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the second straight season, Bridgewater State University senior defensive tackle Elvis Romero has been selected to the D3football.com All-East Region Second Team.

This marks the fifth straight season that the Bears have had a player named to the All-East Region Team and the 15th time since 2005.

In ten games this season, Romero accumulated 53 tackles (35 solo) including 16 tackles for loss and five sacks to go along with a pair of forced fumbles. The Wayne, New Jersey product tied for second in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) in tackles for loss and tied for fifth in sacks.

In 40 games over four seasons with the Bears, Romero recorded 160 tackles with 111 solo stops. He also has 43 1/2 tackles for loss and 18 1/2 sacks to his credit as well as four forced fumbles.

The BSU football team finished the 2016 campaign with an overall record of 8-3 including a perfect 8-0 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) mark. The Bears, who captured their first conference title since 2000, advanced to the NCAA Division III Tournament for the fourth time in program history (1999, 2000, 2012, 2016).

Last month, Romero was named to the All-MASCAC First Team for the third straight season and the New England Football Writers All-New England Team for the second consecutive year.

Romero is one of four players from the MASCAC to garner All-East Region honors. He is joined by senior offensive tackle Pat Sullivan of UMass Dartmouth, senior linebacker Marshall McCarthy of Mass. Maritime Academy and Framingham State University junior tight end Stephen Beahn
