Elvis Romero Named to New England Football Writers All-New England Team

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University junior defensive tackle Elvis Romero has been selected to the 2015 New England Football Writers Division II/III All-New England Team.

In 11 games this season, Romero accumulated a career-high 58 tackles (36 solo) including 14 tackles for loss and six sacks to go along with a forced fumble. The Wayne, New Jersey product finished tied for fifth in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) in both tackles for loss and sacks.

In 30 games over his first three seasons with the Bears, Romero has recorded 107 tackles with 76 solo stops. He also has 27 1/2 tackles for loss and 13 1/2 sacks to his credit as well as two forced and two recovered fumbles.

The 2015 BSU football team posted an overall record of 7-4 and finished tied for second in the MASCAC standings with a 6-2 conference mark. The Bears made the program's tenth postseason appearance, and first since 2012, falling to Carnegie Mellon University in the ECAC Legacy Bowl, 48-13.

Earlier this month, Romero was one of ten Bears named to the All-MASCAC Team as he garnered first team honors.

The 2015 Division II/III All‐New England Team will be honored at the New England Football Writers Captains and Awards Banquet on Thursday, December 10th at the Montvale Plaza in Stoneham. People interested in attending should contact Dick Lipe at Bentley University at 781‐891‐2334.

Notes: Of the 28 players selected to the All-New England Team, the Division II Northeast‐10 Conference had the most with nine representatives followed by the MASCAC and the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) with six each. The New England Football Conference (NEFC) was next with four selections, while the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) had three. One player came from Springfield College which is not affiliated with a New England conference....The University of New Haven led all teams with four selections while Framingham State University was  next with three.
