Alex McLaughlin Named MASCAC Football Offensive Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University sophomore running back Alex McLaughlin has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Football Offensive Player of the Week.

McLaughlin rushed for a career-high 162 yards and four touchdowns in the Bears' 48-20 Homecoming win over Westfield State University. The Littleton, Massachusetts product scored on runs of 22, 48, 13 and one yard, and averaged 8.5 yards per carry.

Through eight games this season, McLaughlin has rushed for 664 yards and 14 touchdowns. He has also passed for 427 yards and three touchdowns.

McLaughlin currently leads the MASCAC in scoring (86 pts.) and touchdowns, and ranks fourth in the conference in both rushing yards and yards per carry (5.1). He is also tied for seventh in all of Division III in rushing touchdowns and 22nd in scoring.

In 17 games over his first two seasons with the Bears. McLaughlin has rushed for 988 yards and 20 touchdowns.

The BSU football team is 6-2 on the season and 5-1 in the MASCAC standings. Following a bye week, the Bears entertain five-time defending MASCAC champion Framingham State University on Saturday, November 7th at noon.
